These Sculptures with Organic Materials are inspired by Chaparral Yucca and its sole pollinator, the tiny yucca moth, thriving in Vasquez Rocks parkland, near the town of Agua Dulce, not far from Highway 14.
Organic materials for these sculptures include cosmos papers, fig and mulberry Amate and Lokta bark papers and yucca seed pods. I collected the pods from a discarded stalk of Chaparral Yucca found in my neighborhood; others were graciously provided by Lizabeth Hope-King, MA, author, The Natural History of Hesperoyucca Whipplei, California State University San Bernardino, 2006, which provides a thorough description of Chaparral Yucca Reproductive Life Cycle, serving as a science reference for my work.
